On Friday, January 14th, Google announced it would spend $1 billion purchasing its currently leased office location in London. Central Saint Giles complex has served as Google’s UK main office since 2011, while the company constructed its new London headquarters in King’s Cross. Both of these investments show Google’s intention of maintaining an in-office staff presence.

The tech company has purchased the building at St Giles High St, located near Covent Garden. The building will be refurbished to include areas for in-person teamwork, meeting rooms, and sections for individuals to work alone. Covered spaces outside will also be created for those who prefer to work in the fresh air.
The company, which so far employs 6,400 in the UK, continues to build long-term commitment to the UK, increasing its employment capacity to up to 10,000.

The latter building, already colloquially regarded as the “Landscaper,” is still under construction and remains without an announced and confirmed completion date. Nonetheless, it is expected to be an 11-story, one-million-square-foot building less than two miles away from Google’s current office. The structure is described as a horizontal skyscraper. The building will be the largest building in the city (330m long) and is expected to feature a rooftop garden, large well-being spaces, swimming pools, running tracks, and more.
